Charterholder
A person awarded the right to use the CFA designation after passing all three levels and meeting the work experience requirement. The right lapses unless membership dues and the annual statement are kept up.
Where you will meet it
Charterholder appears in 5 learning outcomes on the CFA syllabus. A few of them:
- Set out how CFA Institute's Professional Conduct Program is organised and the disciplinary steps it uses to uphold the CFA Institute Code and Standards
“Enforcement sits with CFA Institute's Professional Conduct staff, overseen by the Board of Governors, and the Disciplinary Review Committee, whose volunteer charterholders sit on hearing panels.”
- Show firm command of the Code and Standards by applying them to professional integrity cases under Standard VII, Responsibilities as a CFA Institute Member or CFA Candidate
“Under VII(B) the designation is an adjective, used after a name or in CFA charterholder, never a noun, so a pitch book describing the team as three CFAs breaches it, while three CFA charterholders is fine.”
- Show a deep grasp of CFA Institute's Code and Standards by using them to resolve particular cases
“Charterholders keep the right to use the designation only while in good standing, which includes paying dues and filing the annual Professional Conduct Statement.”
- Propose practices and procedures that stop breaches of the ethics Code and the Standards of Professional Conduct before they occur
“An annual check that each charterholder's membership is current catches lapsed use.”
