Row crop
A crop planted and harvested each year, such as wheat or soybeans, so the farmer can switch between crops season by season. More flexible than permanent crops like orchards or vineyards.
Where you will meet it
Row crop appears in 2 learning outcomes on the CFA syllabus. A few of them:
- Set out the investment features of timberland and farmland
“Farmland return comes from crop yield and price plus land appreciation, and splits between row crops, replanted annually and more flexible, and permanent crops such as orchards, which take years to establish and cannot be switched.”
- Explain what sets timberland and farmland apart from other real asset investments
“Row crops are replanted each year, while permanent crops such as orchards take years to mature.”
Practise it
Practise row crop until it is automatic: questions that explain every wrong option.
