Show firm command of the Code and Standards by applying them to professional integrity cases under Standard IV, Duties to Employers
The idea
Standard IV cases often involve a manager planning to leave. Until employment ends the manager owes full loyalty: preparing a new venture in personal time is fine, but copying model portfolios, client lists or trading code, or soliciting clients, is not. Once gone, the manager may contact former clients using memory or public sources unless a valid agreement forbids it. Under IV(B), a client's offer of a bonus for beating the benchmark is additional compensation that needs written consent from all parties involved, both her employer and the client offering it, since it could skew effort towards that account; a documented email can count. Under IV(C), a chief investment officer must make reasonable efforts to prevent and detect breaches; on learning of one, the supervisor investigates promptly and meanwhile limits or more closely monitors the employee's activities.
