Explain and propose planning for keeping wealth intact over several generations through philanthropy and charitable giving
The idea
Preserving wealth across generations depends as much on governance, shared values and heir education as on structures. Philanthropy supports this: it expresses family values, gives younger members a role and, in many jurisdictions, attracts tax relief. Vehicles include outright gifts, private foundations offering control and a lasting family name at higher cost, donor-advised funds offering simplicity and lower cost with less control, and charitable trusts. A remainder trust pays income to the family and leaves the remainder to charity; a lead trust does the reverse. Long-lived trusts can hold wealth for several generations. Fit the vehicle to goals, desired control and cost. The trap is letting tax benefits drive giving that the family does not truly support.
